The Equestrian Team is comprised of special needs individuals seven years of age or older. On Saturdays, the Equestrian team mounts up to learn to ride and this team goes on to compete in adapted classes in horse shows.  They have shown in the Equestrian Special Olympics, 4H, and open horse shows in Rockingham County.

Schedule:
Equestrian Team rides are held on Saturdays and generally run from April through October, pending weather. Times will vary based on seasonal temperatures. Facebook will be your resource for ride times and possible cancelations due to weather conditions or other circumstances. (Even if you don’t have a Facebook account, it is a public page that you will be able to view).

Horse show dates/times will be available as we find shows to participate in, and will be listed on the calendar on the main page of the website, and will be provided at the rides, as well as listed on Facebook and e-mail.

Enrollment Process:
Parents/Guardians must attend a training class for the program each year/season. We hold one large annual meeting between Feb and March. (If available, we may be able to schedule mid-year trainings.)  The Spring Ride training is scheduled for Feb 23 at 1:30.  Location:  1891 Bethlehem Church Rd Reidsville.  (Bethlehem United Methodist Church).

What to Wear:

Riders:

  • Close-toed shoes – no flip-flops/sliders/sandals
  • Jeans/pants, or long shorts – saddles can get hot in the summer

Parents/Volunteers:

  • Close-toed shoes – no flip-flops/sliders/sandals
  • Jeans/pants, or long shorts – if shorts are worn, they must be at least fingertip length
  • Hats are permitted (ball caps/wester-wear), but NOT winter wear items or toboggans – during warm/hot weather it is unsafe due to the potential of overheating
